Hand carved on a piece of sand stone! The style of cross is a Formée or Pattée commonly used in the mid 1200s by the order of the Hospitallers!
These crosses are normally to signifie a church sanctuary or a monastic boundary! They were also used on trackways on the way to monastic places. The back of the stone has been dressed with a stone pick as used in the 12th and 13th century as seen in the picture of the medieval mason! The size is approximately 40cm square and 15cm thick.
