PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS IS AN EXCEPTIONALLY HEAVY FIGURE IN OAK. Stunning Large & Rare 16th Century Portuguese Antique Ships Figurehead Depicting a Saint.
This is one that should be in a museum! By repute salvaged from a Portuguese Galleon. Carved in the round and standing full length, this figure is depicted wearing a traditional biretta (hat) and vestment. The lace work to his clothing has been beautifully and intricately carved. Sourced from a private Kent-based collection where it was previously mounted above a fireplace in a large house.
Surface wear commensurate with age. Wear and losses to the back of the head but these cannot be seen from the front. This figure displays very well.
