This is an original, old, vintage fantastic early piece of American Folk Art. Circa 1850s-1860s or possibly earlier than this. A beautifully carved wooden child's toy horse that measures 7" long x 5.5" tall to the top of ears. Created from 2 pieces of wood that were glued together and then carved. The seam goes down the back dividing it in half.
The condition is excellent with no repairs or restoration. The only flaw I can see is a small chip on front left hoof. The Patina is 100% original and has a deep crackled varnish surface. The eyes, nose, and mouth are carved out and were painted inside with white milk paint. The mane is hand carved and you can still see some residue of gold metallic paint. The hoofs are also painted gold. This piece came out of Illinois but I have a feeling it is a piece from Eastern America, possibly Pennsylvania or New York? One of the nicest original early primitive toys I have seen in a long time.
