1st came the artists who carved the Cinnabar, with a Shou (longevity) which was then transferred to the cloisonne artist who embedded the lovely flower enamel work into the pendant. There are 8 steps to forming the enamel work. Together with the carved Lacquer layers Cinnabar work (at least 3 steps), it takes 12 steps to create these works of art-each one of these 6 beads, that are 15mm. I show you the process of making just ONE cloisonne bead. Starting with a copper ball.
Soldering a design with wire. Then starting to fill the wire areas with enamel, one layer at a time. Finally applying gold liquid into the fine edges. This type of art was passed on from generation to generation.
In today's China, the young generation is no longer interested in this kind of work, but as you can imagine, prefer hi-tech. So what remains are the items that are circulating in the market and those are now rare collectors items. (and at a reasonable price too).
In this necklace I have also used a center vintage , gold tone Chinese brass bead that has the symbol of prosperity on it, a coin symbol. There are also vintage Chinese brass spacers between the "magical" imbedded Cinnabar beads.
Also, there are tiny red coral beads between the cinnabar beads. The clasp is a vintage hook type gold plated, sterling.
Make sure to fasten the hook tight when putting on. I had 2 very long necklaces of both kinds of beads and decided to spread the wealth by creating a few shorter necklaces. Once they are gone, it will be some challenge to find anything like that again. So don't be mislead by the number of necklaces I have and treat yourself and a loved one to one of them. I have been designing for the most estimable museums and catalogs for many years.Among them are The Smithsonian, The Met, Sundance Catalog and many many more. Now you can find many of the samples used for these companies, right here in my store, for a fraction of their retail prices. Also note that when we say vintage we refer to age, not condition. What's left to say, is enjoy these historical necklaces. The item "Rare Vintage Chinese Shou Carved Cinnabar Imbedded Cloisonne Lacquer necklace" is in sale since Tuesday, September 3, 2019.
